As a result of Jane’s passion for the support of breast care nurses and her commitment to sourcing additional funding, in June 2008 the McGrath Foundation signed a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia’s Department of Health and Ageing for the funding of breast care nurse support in an additional 44 communities nationwide over the next four years.
The McGrath Foundation has been working closely with all state and territory health departments, as well as nominated area health services, to determine areas of need and therefore locations for the additional breast care nurses. Funding agreements are currently in the process of being developed with the various area health services, and recruitment should commence shortly.
A big challenge for the McGrath Foundation will be to ensure that all new breast care nurses are recruited and have commenced employment by 30th June 2009. Recruitment will be carried out by the area health services, so watch out for advertisements in your local press, and through the normal area health service recruitment channels. We look forward to welcoming you to the McGrath Breast Care Nurse Team!
